Minor Rescued, Child Marriage Foiled in Belagavi

Belagavi: A little girl was rescued and child marriage was prevented by Akka Pade, who was on routine patrol in Vantamuri Colony of Belagavi city.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said that Akka Pade noticed the wedding pandal set up in front of a house and became suspicious. On investigation, they found that a 17-year-old girl was scheduled to marry a girl from Pune, Maharashtra.
The team immediately verified the girl’s Aadhaar card and birth certificate; this confirmed that he was a minor at 17 years and four months. They acted quickly and warned Women Police Station Inspector Dileep P. Nimbalkar, who in turn gave instructions to take necessary precautions.
Akka Team then rushed to the scene in coordination with the Child Helpline team and the emergency response unit (112) personnel of Malmaruti Police Station. The teams intervened in time, stopped the wedding ceremony and rescued the girl from the scene.
He was later brought before the Child Welfare Committee. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the girl’s father at Belagavi Women’s Police Station for attempting to commit child marriage.
The Commissioner lauded the efforts of Akka Team staff, including Saraswati Karigar, Swappa Gondhali and Mallayya Karadi, as well as District Child Protection Unit Coordinator, Mallesh Kundargi, for their timely intervention towards the protection of minors.
