Suspicious Death Of Transgender Person Sparks Tension

-Anantapur: The suspicious death of a transgender person named Mallika in Tadipatri town in Anantapur district triggered tension on Monday, with members of the local Rayalaseema transgender community alleging foul play and terming it as murder.
According to sources, Mallika, a resident of Tadipatri, was missing since Sunday evening. His body was later found on railway tracks near Challavaripalli railway gate in Tadipatri mandal on Monday.
It is suspected that she was forcibly taken away in an autorickshaw by members of a rival group of transgender people. The alleged kidnapping was reportedly recorded on nearby CCTV cameras following which Tadipatri police intensified the investigation.
Police later received information that there was a body lying on the railroad tracks. When they reached the spot, they found that it belonged to Mallika.
After news of her death spread, members of the transgender community rushed to the hospital and staged protests, accusing a rival group of kidnapping and killing Mallika as part of a pre-planned conspiracy.
Police have reportedly detained three suspects, namely Sirisha, Sangeetha and Radha, in connection with the alleged abduction and death.
Investigators are investigating whether rivalry between transgender groups led to the incident or whether other aspects were involved. Police said further investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, social workers and organizations emphasized the need to ensure sustainable livelihood for transgender people and demanded strict action against alleged extortion activities at busy junctions and railway gates.
