Problems in land transactions continue to persist a year after passage of Bhu Bharati Act

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission chairman Kodanda Reddy interacts with legal expert M. Sunil Kumar, who played a key role in drafting the Bhu Bharati Act in Gajulapahad village, where a farmer committed suicide due to land-related issues.

Farmers continue to face problems related to land transactions even a year after the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Registration of Rights) Act, 2025 came into force.

The recent suicide of farmer Madhav Rao in Gajulapahad village of Kangti mandal in Sangareddy district is an indication of the difficulties faced by farmers in securing their rights over their land. Madhav Rao reportedly took the extreme step, unable to withstand the pressure from his family members, after the ownership of 8.25 acres of land owned by the family was transferred to others without their knowledge through sada bainama (plain paper transaction).
