Australia must repel the global attacks on reproductive rights

After the US Supreme Court overturned it in 2022 Roe v WadeMany media commentators have argued that Australia is different from the United States and that abortion rights are safe there. Ultimately, between 2002 and 2023, governments across the country removed abortion from criminal laws. But in July 2022, Women’s Health Victoria (WHV) sounded the alarm: “Reactionary abortion legislation around the world has the potential to impact local providers and people who need services by making it harder to access services due to fear of prosecution and discrimination.”
