Sources confirmed to Fox News; federal authorities raided more than 20 locations, including child care facilities, in Minneapolis on Tuesday as part of a sweeping fraud investigation against mostly Somali-owned businesses.

“Today, the FBI, along with federal, state and local law enforcement, is engaging in court-authorized law enforcement activities as part of an ongoing fraud investigation,” a Justice Department spokesman said.

Authorities served 22 federal search warrants in Minnesota Tuesday morning as part of a non-immigration-related operation.

The raids focus on federal fraud investigations into largely Somali-owned businesses, including child care facilities that registered their daycares with the state but allegedly billed for care that was not provided.

Sources told Fox News that two of the raids were carried out at Quality Learning Center and Baby Halimo Child Care Center in Minneapolis.

The Center for Quality Learning gained national attention after blogger Nick Shirley visited various child care addresses and found empty or non-functioning storefronts, closed businesses, or angry Somali residents who refused to answer questions or entertained the couple’s bogus efforts to “enroll” a child in the so-called day care.
