Indiana Democrat arrested after allegedly campaigning in neighborhood while on cocaine

One indiana Democratic State Senate candidate He was allegedly arrested while investigating a neighborhood while high on cocaine after officers said his erratic behavior and a brief struggle led to drugs being found in his car, according to police.
Andrew Dezelan, 38, who is running for Senate District 31 in the May 5 Democratic primary, faces one count of cocaine possession and resisting law enforcement following his arrest Sunday night. FOX59 Indianapolis reported.
Police responded to reports of a man going door-to-door soliciting around 8 p.m. in Fishers, WRTV reported.. Officers found Dezelan sitting in his car at a nearby clubhouse, and Dezelan told them he was campaigning.
Based on a probable cause received by exit, officers immediately noticed signs that Dezelan might be impaired, including rapid speech, erratic movements, sweating, and constricted pupils.

It was claimed that when asked for his identity, Dezelan became agitated, rummaged through his vehicle and said he had to leave. Police said the man put the car in reverse despite a warning to stop and put his hand in his pocket.
The police opened the car door and took him out. It followed a struggle in which police repeatedly forced Dezelan to the ground before handcuffing him, authorities said.
The Indiana State Capitol is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
A search of the vehicle revealed a small bag of powder that field tested positive for cocaine, according to police.
Dezelan was transported to Hamilton County Jail.

Dezelan is one of four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for the district, which includes parts of Fishers and Lawrence.
