New Delhi: An Air India pilot, who was on planned rest, died in Bali after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday. The co-pilot, who is almost 40 years old, operated a flight from Delhi to Bali on Tuesday, according to an airline official.

The co-pilot was on a scheduled crew rest in Bali and complained of severe discomfort at his hotel, an Air India spokesman said in a statement.

“He was immediately taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed as having a heart attack. Despite all the efforts of the medical team, he could not be saved,” the spokesman said.

Air India’s spokesperson said it was deeply saddened by the pilot’s death, adding that the airline was in close contact with the family and providing all possible support.

Further details could not immediately be determined.

The pilot completed all mandatory medical examinations in accordance with regulatory requirements only a few months ago, the airline official said.

The official stated that he had no known previous health conditions and added that the pilot served well within the flight hour limitations set by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
