‘You could feel panic in the air’: Boy George reveals he was left ‘in tears’ after being caught up in the Golders Green knife attack

Boy George has revealed he was at the scene of the horrific Golders Green stabbing attack on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before lunch, fear gripped the North London area when 34-year-old Shloime Rand was stabbed in the chest, narrowly missing her vital organs. Minutes later, 76-year-old Moshe Shine was stabbed in the neck at a bus stop 400 meters away.

The Culture Club icon, 64, who has spoken about his past ties to Judaism through his manager Paul Kemsley, took to X to share a video from the scene, explaining: ‘You can feel panic in the air.’

He wrote on the microblogging site: ‘I was in Golders Green yesterday. I came just as the police force was being established. My heart goes out to the two Jewish victims and their loved ones. We must show our Jewish community that we support them…

‘I was in tears even before I realized what was happening because you could feel the panic in the air. These are just things ordinary people buy [on] with their lives…

‘London has always been a multicultural city. Our Jewish community gives us so much. They are an integral part of the fabric of this city.’

Alongside the post, he included a link to a book called Love is a Losing Game by the late Amy Winehouse, whose ties to the area include her being cremated at Golders Green Crematorium in July 2011.

Following the attack, the 45-year-old suspect, who had a history of “serious violence and mental health issues” according to Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, was detained by Jewish community watchdog Shomrim, along with police.

The footage shows police officers using a stun gun to neutralize him after he tried to stab him.

The Mail understands that the suspect, a Somali-born British national, is also known under the Government’s Counter Radicalisation programme.

On Wednesday night, Mr. Rand’s relatives and Mr. Shine’s friends said the men were recovering in hospital and medical staff said their condition was stable.

But while the US administration has contacted Mr Rand, a joint US-UK citizen, and is said to have briefed the President, his family has said the British Government has not been in contact.

In 2015, Boy George opened up about how he’s always had ‘father figures’ in his life – who turned out to be all Jewish – including his longtime manager Paul, star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

He said of Paul: ‘We became very good friends. He is a big Jewish boy from North London. In some ways we have had a similar journey. We both agree that we love America because it is the place of second chances…

‘I [smitten with him]But it’s not like that.”
