Supreme Court issues notice on plea to establish separate ‘revenue judicial’ cadre to decide land disputes

The Supreme Court on Thursday, April 30, 2026, sought a response from the Center and States seeking the establishment of a separate cadre of ‘revenue judicial service’ exclusively for adjudication of land disputes.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant notified the Center and the States about the petition filed by the petitioner-lawyer Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay; This petition also sought a direction to prescribe a uniform minimum legal qualification and judicial training module for public officials adjudicating land cases.
