In July 2024, three young girls were killed by Axel Rudakubana in Southport and 10 other people were seriously injured.

Interior Minister, a strong new crime to target the suspects who have been found to have prepared massacres, said that their plans will be taken as seriously as terrorism.

Yette Cooper said that the criminal justice system should be given new tools to respond to individuals confused by non -motivated violence by a certain ideology after the Southport attack last year.

Terrorist suspects, who took steps towards an attack, can be imprisoned for life even if their plans are not fully formed.

Cooper said to the BBC that the government would “close the gap” between such criminals and only individuals with violence, giving the police the power to capture them long before taking action.

Axel Rudakubana is sentenced to life imprisonment to kill three daughters when they attacked a Taylor Swift -themed dance lesson in Southport almost a year ago.

Eight other girls were seriously injured with two adults trying to stop the killer.

If the police found that they had explored a target before the attack, they would not have arrested and blame him on a serious crime because he had no ideological motivation to the definition of terrorism.

BBC Radio Talks to 4s Terrorist 7/7 The series, which has been responding to violent extremism for 20 years since the bombings, said Cooper police will receive the power to prevent such individuals who have no open ideology as terrorist suspects.

Yette Cooper said that the government would “tighten” the law, so that a collective attack planning “was taken as serious as terrorism”

“In the law, there is a gap around the planning of mass attacks, which is equally serious. [as terrorism] The effects, effects, destruction and seriousness of crime may cause, “he said.

He continued: “The legislation will be as serious as terrorism.”

Cooper said that the plan, which has been briefly announced in March but has not so far meat, is similar to very serious crimes in preparing the new law for terrorist acts.

This legislation, which was introduced after 2005 London bombings, is a vital counter -extremism tool that puts dozens of suspects in jail.

It allows the police to arrest a terrorist suspect for the steps they take to prepare for an attack, such as investigating a goal.

However, it also predicts that preparation should be evidence that it is linked to an ideological reason, such as the support of a group prohibited under terror laws.

The non -terrorist crime will be valid for a much wider range of scenarios, including the activity of individuals such as Nicholas Prosper. He was planning to shoot a mass school before he was caught for killing his family.

Cooper said: “Increased number of young people potentially radicalized themselves online and saw all kinds of extremist materials in the bedrooms online.

“They see a really crooked and crooked online world.

“We should make sure that the systems can react without gathering our eyes.”
