King tour LIVE: Charles arrives in Bermuda after Trump’s shock decision | Royal | News

Locals began gathering around King’s Square from 8am this morning to hold their ground along the Union flag-draped railings.

School children brim with excitement as they stand, waving Bermuda and United Kingdom flags in the sunlight.

Four-year-old Theo Godfrey wears the replica King’s Guard uniform, complete with the red tunic and bearskin hat worn by the guards outside St James’s Palace and Buckingham Palace.

Her mother bought the outfit from Buckingham Palace’s official store two years ago and “has been wearing it ever since!” he joked.

Sisters Freya, nine, and Sophie, seven, said they were “so excited” to see the King and wave their flags, but were disappointed to have to return to school after Charles left.

Jane Gregory, a retired banker, said she saw the late Queen Elizabeth when she visited in 2009 and came today because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the King.

“It means a lot to me for him to come, I’m originally from England, it means a lot to me, I’m very excited.”

The weather has improved significantly since the showers and strong winds of early this morning, with bright sunshine appearing shortly before the king’s arrival.

Siblings Albie, six, and Aurora, four, spent last night and this morning creating two posters to show the King.

The first, written in red, white and blue and complemented by the union flag, read: “Welcome to St George’s, Bermuda, King Charles III.”

They also made a crown that Aurora held on a stick.

Their families said they wanted to come here because their surname is George, which is the same as the town’s and is second in line to the throne after former monarchs.

Before the arrival of royalty, town crier Ed Christopher practiced ringing bells, a source of great joy for primary school children.

He has been in the role since the Queen’s visit in 1994 and covers the whole island.

Are you excited to see the king? “I hope the king will be excited when he sees me.”

Mr. Christopher will announce the King’s arrival.

A large banner welcoming Charles hangs in the Whitehorse pub, St George’s’ oldest pub – although it mistakenly includes the Queen.

It read: “Warm greetings to Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla.”

Palace sources confirmed that it was always planned for the King to visit alone, with the Queen returning to the UK following a four-day state visit to the US.
