Visakhapatnam: IMD has predicted storms, lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds in Andhra Pradesh for the next five days as extreme heat continues to affect many parts of the state.

The wind is likely to reach up to 60 kilometers per hour in North Coast Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, while its speed is expected to reach 40 kilometers per hour in Rayalaseema. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on 5 and 6 May; Storm activity will continue in Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema Coasts until May 7.

State Disaster Management Authority Director General Prakhar Jain said the north-south trough, which stretches from southern Chhattisgarh to Comorin district across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, is affecting the weather.

Despite the rain activity, heatwave conditions remain severe. On Sunday, Gudur in Nellore district recorded the highest temperature of the season at 46.2°C, followed by Kopperapadu in Prakasam district with 46.1°C. Temperatures above 41°C were recorded in 286 mandals in 16 districts, including Kadapa, Nellore, Tirupati, Prakasam, Palnadu, Markapuram, Nandyal, Chittoor, Kurnool and Bapatla.

Officials have warned that heatwave conditions may continue in 27 mandals in districts like Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Eluru, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu and Nellore on Monday.

Other high temperatures recorded include 45.7°C at Cumbum (Markapuram), 45.6°C at Bonupalle (Tirupati), 44.2°C at Nadigadda (Palnadu), 44°C at Karamchedu (Bapatla), 43.9°C at Thovi (Kurnool), 43.9°C at Thavanampalle (Chittoor) 43.8°C, Thavanampalle (Chittoor) has 43.4°C. 43.1°C in Therannapalli (Anantapur) and Veeraballe (Kadapa) and Banaganapalle (Nandyal) and Chilakallu (NTR).
