Cameron Young says it’s an ‘honor’ to play in front of President Trump after win at Cadillac Championship

As the PGA Tour calendar quickly approaches another major tournament, Scottie Scheffler remains the best player in the world due to his ability to compete consistently in nearly every tournament.
Rory McIlroy is on course for his second straight win at The Masters, a remarkable achievement on one of the tour’s toughest golf courses. After a long major championship drought, McIlroy has finally achieved a career Grand Slam and looks poised to be a threat at every major tournament moving forward.
But the hottest golfer in the sport right now might be Cameron Young.
Young’s run began at the Genesis Invitational, where he finished in a tie for seventh. He then finished third at Bay Hill, one of the toughest courses on the calendar. A week later he won the unofficial “5th major” at THE PLAYERS Championship and finished third at The Masters.

A few weeks later, in the signature event at the fearsome Trump National Doral “Blue Monster” course, Young posted a dominant six-shot victory on Sunday. His second win of the season, a $3.6 million purse, -19 to Scheffler’s -13. On top of that, President Trump was there to see it happen.

Cameron Young Talks Winning Ahead of President Trump
With the president in attendance, security and tournament procedures were much different than a typical Sunday. He was asked this question after the tournament. press conference.
“Once you get out there… you’re doing your job, but everything leading up to that, you know, it’s definitely creeping in with the Secret Service and security and police, and it definitely has a different feel,” Young said. “I walked out all week to go to the side door where we come into the clubhouse and it was like two guys got together and said, ‘Hey, we’re not letting anyone through this way right now.’ So I was walking towards the locker room to eat and I had to turn around and go around the clubhouse to get back to that door. So there’s little things like that that are obviously different here at the President and it did change the rhythm of the day a little bit in the beginning, but it was already so delayed by the delays that, you know, it wasn’t a big deal.”
After the tour, he spoke to President Trump and thanked him for hosting the tournament.
“He was very complimentary, so – you know, I was lucky to meet him before and that’s especially true for us golfers, it’s something he loves and I think he appreciates how good everyone is on the PGA Tour,” he said. “So it’s really very complimentary and I of course thanked him for hosting us and that was it.”

Asked about the brief meeting with Trump, Young said he was “grateful” for hosting the tournament here and that it was an “honor” to play with the president.
“This is very unique,” Young added. “He’s nothing if not a very, very interesting guy. He’s very strong and it’s an honor to play in front of him. I’m very grateful to him and his family and his organization that has these beautiful properties and allows us to come and play great golf tournaments on them. This is a special place and a great championship golf course, I’m grateful to have him back on the program.”

It’s always refreshing in this day and age to hear an athlete talk about meeting the president with respect and appreciation, rather than taking the opportunity to express some sort of political opinion. Especially when the president also appreciates the sport, as Trump clearly does with golf.
