Is Kim Kardashian wearing Princess Diana’s ‘revenge dress’ to the Met Gala? Speculation mounts four years after star sparked a HUGE backlash when she damaged Marilyn Monroe’s ‘priceless’ iconic gown

Kim Kardashian is said to have stolen another slice of fashion history at the Met Gala on Monday night – this time in royalty form.

Diller says he has now acquired the late Princess Diana’s 1994 ‘Revenge Dress’, four years after the 45-year-old reality star damaged Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ dress.

The Revenge Dress was an evening dress that Diana wore to a dinner in Kensington in 1994, and was interpreted as being worn in revenge after her husband King Charles, then Prince of Wales, confessed to adultery on television.

Designed by Christina Stambolian, the dress belongs to private Scottish collector Graeme Mackenzie, who purchased the dress for over $74,000 at an auction in 1997 and has it stored in a bank vault for safekeeping rather than being permanently displayed in public.

Entertainment reporter Rishi Davda also added to the speculation on Good Morning Britain on Monday morning, saying: ‘If rumors are to be believed, she’s renting another iconic dress; ‘No other than Princess Diana’s revenge dress from 1994.’

User One X wrote: ‘So Kim is reportedly trying to get Diana’s ‘revenge dress’. After ruining the look of Marilyn’s dress! Who can wear an iconic dress, but you can’t replicate the presence, context or legacy that made it unforgettable.

Outrage over the use of a historical garment came after Marilyn wore the same dress the Some Like It Hot actress famously wore when wishing then-President John F. Kennedy a happy birthday in 1962.

After the star wore the elegant and dazzling dress to the 2022 Met Gala, Kim faced backlash once again for allegedly ‘damaging’ the dress, with videos and images claiming to show rips and tears in the dress.

A video purportedly shows off the dress in Ripley’s Believe It or Not! After Kim borrowed the dress in Hollywood.

The clip shows the dress on a mannequin in a glass display case and includes close-ups of the right back strap, which has a visible tear.

Marilyn fans claimed the damage was caused when the dress was shipped to New York and then worn by Kim on the red carpet.

Instagram user Darrell Rooney shared the video and said, “Note the damage to the right hanger on the back of Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 wedding dress.”

In another post drawing attention to the stretched fabric, he wrote: ‘Look at the damage caused by KK. It is irreversible. ‘Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 dress now has multiple rips.’

These posts sparked an explosion of anger among Monroe fans; many of whom were quick to criticize Kardashian and Ripley in the comments section.

‘Ripleys don’t deserve this dress. ‘They have proven to be dishonest and lack the professional skills to preserve valuable artifacts,’ one person wrote.

‘to be [Kardashian] Will he be sued? Because you damaged the dress?’ asked another, adding: ‘This is absolutely disgusting. I’m so sorry she ruined a beautiful piece of history meant for a queen and a queen only…. MARILYN.’

“She wants to be in the league of people like MM so badly that she somehow thought wearing that dress would elevate her,” one user chimed in.

‘He tried to place himself in eternity by attaching himself to MM. But he will go down in history as a selfish individual who destroyed one of MM’s most valuable assets to attract more attention.’

The late Princess of Wales, who owned 900 pearls, wore them to various events over the years, including film and theater premieres.
