Huge blow for ‘toxic’ Keir Starmer as Labour faces election wipeout | Politics | News

Sir Keir Starmer has reportedly been kept away from Labour’s local election campaign because he is seen as “toxic”. British people will go to the polls on Thursday, May 7, to elect their representatives in local governments. Labor is expected to lose more than 1,800 seats. It will also lose control of the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament, and go after the SNP in Scotland.

The Labor leader reportedly played a minor role in the party’s campaigns, attending fewer than 12 events across the country. It is thought that voters’ dislike of Sir Keir means he doesn’t make much appearances. Labor is thought to have lost support to Zack Polanski’s Greens on the left and Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party on the right.

The Prime Minister could face a leadership challenge once the results are announced, with Andy Burnham, Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting suggested as potential successors.

“There’s a visceral hatred towards it, and it’s spread across all vectors; it’s not just one group.”

They added: “He’s just seen as a completely insincere, two-faced person. Starmer has no followers, only enemies; it’s incredible.”

Labor MPs are reportedly discussing plans to force Sir Keir Starmer to resign in an open letter following a potential crush in local elections.

Those left behind in the 2024 elections plan to write a letter blaming the Prime Minister for expected losses at the polls and asking him to set a date for his departure, the Times reported.

The number of Labor voters in Scotland could fall to just 13, a new poll suggests; Almost 20% of voters are still undecided ahead of Thursday’s Holyrood election.

A new multilevel post-regression stratification (MRP) survey, shared exclusively with the Press Association by More in Common, surveyed more than 4,000 Scots between 3 March and 26 April.

SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn, who is running for Holyrood, said: “There will be a constitutional shock in these islands next Thursday when we expect the Scottish National Party to win in Scotland and Plaid Cymru to win in Wales.”
