A murder investigation has been launched after a 25-year-old man died in a drive-by shooting at a barbecue in south London at the weekend.

Four people were injured in a drive-by shooting on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton just after 1am on Saturday morning.

Keanu Taylor, 25, died in hospital from his injuries, the Metropolitan Police said.

The other three people injured in the shooting, ages 21, 47 and 70, did not have life-threatening or life-changing injuries, police said.

No arrests were made.

Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with Keanu’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time as we work quickly to identify those responsible.

Police officers, including specialist crime officers, arrived at the scene within four minutes and provided emergency first aid along with the London Ambulance Service.

“This was a shocking act of violence that had a devastating impact on those involved and the local community. “I would like to reassure residents that we are working urgently to identify and arrest those responsible.

“It is vital that anyone who saw what happened or has any information or footage comes forward. Even the smallest detail could be vital to our investigation.”

“Local people will continue to see an increased police presence in the area over the coming days. Please speak to officers if you have any concerns.”

On Saturday, several hours after the attack, several police officers were seen searching a grassy area outside the grounds of Southwyck House on Coldharbour Lane.

Moh John, 45, who works at Payless Food & Wine supermarket outside the Southwyck House estate, said he believed the incident occurred during a barbecue party.

“I was putting something there, I heard voices. There was a rush, there was a party. I saw people running away.”

“But then I saw people, some people tried to get into the shop and I locked the door.”

He said those rushing inside the supermarket were “scared”, adding he kept the front door locked for “some time” before he re-opened it.”

40-year-old Robert, who did not want to give his surname, said that he did not see the incident because he was inside throughout the night, but said: “I think it happened at the barbecue. Every place was full.”

“I generally feel safe here, people know each other and get along. There have been a few stabbings and one day a gun was seized, but I don’t think anyone has ever been shot like that.”
