El Clasico: Hansi Flick to lead Barcelona despite father’s death

Despite the death of his father, coach Hansi Flick will take charge of Barcelona in the El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday.
There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off at the Nou Camp (20:00 BST) and players will observe silence by wearing black armbands during the match.
Announcing the death on Sunday afternoon, Barcelona said: “FC Barcelona and the entire blaugrana family would like to send all our love to Hansi Flick after the passing of his father.
“We share your sadness and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.”
Flick, 61, can lead Barcelona to back-to-back La Liga titles with a win or draw against Real.
The former Bayern Munich and Germany manager has won four trophies for Barcelona since replacing Xavi in May 2024.
Their fierce rivals at Madrid said in a statement: “Real Madrid, its president and directors, are deeply saddened by the death of Hansi Flick’s father.
“Real Madrid wishes to convey its condolences and love to his family and all his loved ones. May he rest in peace.”
