House Dem claims his colleagues are privately disgusted by Hasan Piker

Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a Democrat from New Jersey, accuses members of his own party of employing a “double standard” on antisemitism and argues in a New York Times guest article that Democrats have failed to forcefully condemn anti-Israel rhetoric and antisemitic comments by figures on the political left.
“There must be only one response to those who express hatred towards any American: condemnation,” Gottheimer said. wrote in the article It was published on Sunday. “Hate is hate. He doesn’t get a pass because he’s coming from your side of the aisle.”
Gottheimer, one of Israel’s most outspoken Democratic advocates in Congress, has continued to draw support from Democratic politicians and make public appearances, while singling out progressive political commentator Hasan Piker and accusing him of promoting “anti-Semitic and anti-American extremism.”
“Unfortunately, we have seen many prominent Democrats appear on his show and even campaign with him, lending legitimacy to his views,” Gottheimer wrote.

The congresswoman compared Democrats’ criticism of President Donald Trump for his past interactions with white nationalist Nick Fuentes and the party’s condemnation of the 2017 Charlottesville rally to what he described as an unwillingness to confront antisemitism emanating from the far left.
“Right-wing hatred is consistently condemned across the ideological spectrum of the Democratic Party,” Gottheimer wrote. “But too many Democrats today remain noticeably and shamefully silent when antisemitism comes from the far left.”
Gottheimer said some Democrats privately acknowledged concerns about incendiary rhetoric but avoided public criticism out of fear of backlash from progressive activists.

“I spoke with my congressional colleagues who told me privately that many of the things Mr. Piker said were disgusting,” Gottheimer wrote. “They won’t say anything about it publicly, though.”
Gottheimer listed some of Piker’s most extreme statements, including that Orthodox Jews were “innate” and that America deserved 9/11; “Both reluctantly backed down.”
“Mr. Piker trafficks in anti-Semitic and anti-American extremism, which is met with silence from many on the Democratic left,” Gottheimer wrote.
He also criticized recent actions by members of his own party toward Israel, including votes against the Senate’s sale of military equipment to the country due to ongoing concerns about Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.

“Last month, a majority of Senate Democrats voted for two measures that would block the sale of military equipment to Israel,” Gottheimer wrote, questioning whether the shift reflected an influence of principle or political pressure from “a small but vocal and growing segment of the political left.”
Gottheimer also accused Democrats of disproportionately targeting Israel compared to other U.S. allies with documented human rights concerns, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Türkiye.
“Democrats’ condemnation of the Israeli government is overwhelming compared to other allies,” Gottheimer said. he wrote.

The Anti-Defamation League reported earlier this year that antisemitic incidents in the United States reached record levels following the Oct. 7 attacks, citing thousands of cases involving harassment, vandalism and attacks.
Piker defended himself against accusations of anti-Semitism while calling on Democrats to become the anti-Israel party.
