LGBTQ activists speak out after ‘Save Girls Sports’ rally rocks California track meet with a trans athlete
Pro-transgender activists held a news conference at a girls’ track meet in California on Saturday, just hours after “Save Girls Sports” protesters held a rally at the same meet.
A transgender athlete competed for Jurupa Valley High School, winning first place in the high jump, triple jump and long jump in the first round of the state tournament.
The athlete’s mother, Nereyda Hernandez, addressed earlier protesters at a pro-trans press conference hosted by LGBTQ rights groups “Rainbow Families Action” and “Pride on the Pier.”

“My daughter is underage,” he said. “Their behavior disturbed our peace.”
The mother claimed that the attention and controversy surrounding her child competing in girls’ sports caused problems for her entire family, the athlete’s teammates, classmates and their families.
“The impact was so severe that I had to take time off work because my focus had to be on protecting my daughter’s safety and emotional well-being,” the mother said at the press conference.
“No parent should have to choose between making a living and protecting their child from abuse in society.”

The parent of Trevor Norcross, another transgender high school athlete in California, thanked Gov. Gavin Newsom for “condemning” the “Save Girls Sports” protest and requested a meeting with him.
“Governor Newsom, I appreciate that you condemned the protest by the anti-trans group here this morning. But for too long, this debate has occurred without the voices of transgender athletes and their families. I am here today to meet with you and have a respectful conversation,” Norcross said. he said.
“The people most impacted by this have not been included in the conversation… We are asking you to have a seat at the table.”
A source from the governor’s office made the statement to Fox News Digital in response to news that a “Save Girls Sports” protest was planned for Saturday.

“The governor said discussions on this issue should be guided by justice, dignity and respect. He rejects the cynical attempt by the right wing to weaponize this debate as an excuse to denigrate individual children. The governor’s position is simple: stand up for all children and stand up to bullies,” the statement said.
“California is one of 22 states with laws requiring students to be allowed to participate in sex-segregated school sports consistent with their gender identity. California passed this law in 2013 (AB 1266) and was signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.”
