West Ham to contact PGMO after late equaliser against Arsenal disallowed by VAR

Former Premier League assistant referee Darren Cann on Match of the Day: “I don’t think anyone wants to swap places with Darren England. Nobody wants to sit in that chair. He went out on the pitch, made the right decision and it was the biggest VAR call in Premier League history.”

Former newcastle Goalkeeper Shay Given on Match of the Day: “What pleases me is that at Arsenal this season we have seen many times where goalkeepers and defenders have been blocked and the goal has remained stationary. Everyone has been disappointed with the consistency of the referee’s decision. Why are some goals allowed to stand and not? There is a lot at stake in the lower and upper tiers of the league.

“The other thing is that Gabriel holds, Odegaard holds, Trossard holds before Raya is fouled. When does the referee decide that it is the foul he wants to call and not the previous foul?”

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy on Match of the Day: “The controversy and discontent about not giving a goal to West Ham stems from the fact that Arsenal cannot be held responsible for decisions made in the past.

“VAR officials need to say what they see and this is a clear foul. We shouldn’t distort it just because Arsenal are there.”

Former West Ham Goalkeeper Rob Green on BBC Radio 5 live: “This is a foul. You are looking at two players fouling the goalkeeper. There have been so many of these this season, so much talked about, so many inconsistencies, that it is huge that it has come to this point.

“It seems to have been the theme of the season for VAR, for West Ham, especially for Arsenal with set-pieces.

“It’s a single foul. There were five or six fouls at the same time there, but that’s where the ball fell. Then you think about consistency, there just wasn’t any.”
