Princess Catherine will travel abroad this week with a solo visit to Reggio Emilia in northern Italy. The visit will be the 44-year-old’s first trip abroad since 2023 and his first since being diagnosed with cancer in early 2024.
Traveling on behalf of the Royal Foundation Early Childhood Centre, Catherine will study the “Reggio Emilia Approach”, an educational philosophy focused on community-based, early childhood education that emphasizes nature, creativity and the role of the child. The trip is a continuation of her previous work on early childhood development and aligns with her efforts to encourage outdoor learning and human connection over screen time for children.

When is Princess Kate going to Italy?
Princess Catherine will arrive in Italy on May 13 and will stay there until May 14.
She will be traveling alone, without her husband Prince William.
The future King will remain in the UK to look after the couple’s three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
Why is Princess Kate going to Italy?
Catherine, who announced she was in recovery at the beginning of last year, will travel to Italy on a solo study trip with the Royal Foundation Early Childhood Centre.
The visit will focus on early childhood development and will be part of a “fact-finding mission” to examine the internationally recognized “Reggio Emilia Approach”.
He added that the Princess of Wales will see “first-hand how the Reggio Emilia approach creates environments where nature and loving human relationships come together to support children’s development.” During the trip, the future Queen will meet with educators, parents, children, local representatives and business leaders.

When was the last time Princess Kate traveled for business?
Her last official visit abroad was in December 2022, when she traveled to Boston, USA, with Prince William for the Earthshot Prize award ceremony.
He also made two short trips to Marseille, France, for the Rugby World Cup in autumn 2023.
Catherine also attended the wedding of Jordan’s Crown Prince in Amman in June 2023, but these were not considered official foreign tours by the royal family.

Catherine announced that she would be in remission in early 2025, following her cancer diagonal in March 2024.
