3 Held With 194 Kg Ganja In Anakapalle

Anakapalli police arrested three persons at Gonnavanipalem Junction in Anakapalle district on Tuesday and seized 194 kg of dry marijuana worth around Rs 97 lakh from them.
Anakapalle superintendent of police Tuhin Sinha said the arrested persons were identified as Gummala Perunaidu and G. Ganesh (driver) of Bailapudi village of Cheedikada mandal and M. Sattibabu of Gajjedu village in Pedabayalu mandal of ASR district. Perunaidu has been accused of six cannabis trafficking cases in the past.
Police said that on the afternoon of May 11, police and Elite Anti-Narcotics Group (Eagle) teams carried out vehicle inspections on Bangarumetta-Anakapalle road near Gonnavanipalem under Butchayyapeta mandal. Police stopped a scooter and a car and found packages of marijuana in the car. The police seized the marijuana and detained 3 people. The investigation continues to catch the others.
The SP added that 1,177 kg of dry marijuana and 7.14 kg of hashish have been seized in 46 cases so far in 2026. He stated that a total of 24 drug dealers have been sentenced in 13 cases so far during the year, and 16 of them were sentenced to between 10 and 15 years in prison.
The SP said that the police had ordered an investigation into the financial transactions and assets of those involved in the ganja trade in the district and seized Rs 1.25 crore of illegal assets accumulated by the ganja smugglers.
34-year-old AP man from Vizag dies of heart attack in Congo
A 34-year-old man from the Annamayya region died of a heart attack in Congo on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as P. Sreekanth Reddy, a native of Kalicherla village in Peddamandyam mandal. According to family members, he had been working for a private company in Congo for the last 11 years.
They said Sreekanth suffered a heart attack while he was out for a walk on Monday morning. He was immediately taken to hospital and doctors declared him dead.
He is survived by his wife and four-year-old daughter. Family members said he visited his birth village every two years. Sreekanth’s body is expected to reach India in three days, his father and former MP Prasad Reddy said.
Traffic SI dismissed for cheating on woman
A sub-inspector attached to Kurnool Traffic police station has been suspended from his post in connection with a fraud case involving a young woman from Nandyal.
The police officer, identified as Hari Prasad, was accused of cheating on the woman on the pretext of love. Following the victim’s complaint, senior police officials ordered an investigation into the allegations.
After detailed investigation over the past few days, the authorities suspended Hari Prasad from the service.
The action came soon after CI Sriharsha and two police constables of Anantapur district were suspended in connection with a honey trap case.
The back-to-back dismissals reflect a determined stance against moral misconduct and abuse of position within the police force, officials said.
