Police believed to have identified three women found in sea in Brighton as investigation continues

Sussex Police believe they have identified three women who died at sea off Brighton on Wednesday morning, adding investigators have “a number of hypotheses” about how they died.
Emergency services were called to the beach at around 05.45 after concerns were expressed about the condition of a person at sea. They were first spotted at Brighton Palace Pier before drifting towards the marina.
HM Coaster deployed a helicopter and rescue teams from the surrounding area to assist with the work. Three bodies were later recovered from the nearby sea.
Brighton police said after extensive investigations “we believe all three women have been identified”.
Relatives have been informed and official identification procedures are currently ongoing. The women’s names will not be made public until these procedures are completed.
His relatives are currently being supported by specialist officers.
Superintendent Adam Hays called the incident a “heartbreaking tragedy” and asked the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
“This is an incredibly heartbreaking tragedy and my thoughts are with the loved ones of these three young women after their devastating loss,” he said. “They will be at the forefront of our minds as we search for the answers their families and the public desperately seek.”
“This is a sensitive investigation involving a number of hypotheses and it would be inappropriate to speculate while we continue to gather evidence.
“I once again ask for the public’s patience as we reveal all the facts, which will be shared with the public as soon as possible.
“Anyone with information that can help is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Ledmore.”
The investigation continues to understand how all three women fell into the water. Police said there was no evidence of third-party involvement or criminality in the incident.
This is breaking news. More to follow.
