Daniel and Henrik Sedin are now co-presidents of the Vancouver Canucks after team cleans house

Sometimes I think we forget how crazy it was when the Vancouver Canucks selected identical twins Henrik and Daniel Sedin with the second and third picks in the 1999 NHL Draft. They both played 17 seasons, all in Vancouver.

They are now officially co-presidents of the Canucks…

…And I’m starting to wonder if they can do things independently.

The Swedish brothers hung up their skates in 2018, and the two Hall of Famers began working in the Canucks’ front office the following year.

Now, the team is getting a new front office following the firing of GM Patrik Allvin and the resignation of former president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford following the upcoming draft.

“For the last 26 years, Daniel and Henrik have dedicated their entire professional hockey careers to Vancouver,” said team owner Francesco Aquilini. NHL.com. “They have always been dedicated to excellence, whether as players or in various management positions.”

Meanwhile, the team also promoted Executive Vice President Ryan Johnson to general manager.

This is a golden opportunity to inject some talent, perhaps even on the blue line after the Hughes trade.

While Gavin McKenna is the likely No. 1 pick, there are plenty of highly-rated defenders who fit the bill, including Chase Reid, Carson Carels and Alberts Smits.
