China has agreed to buy American oil, US President Donald Trump said in a pre-recorded interview with Fox News broadcast in the US on Thursday evening, as the two countries pressed for concrete trade and business gains at an ongoing bilateral summit.
“They agreed to buy oil from the United States, they will go to Texas, and we will start sending Chinese ships to Texas, Louisiana and Alaska,” Trump said in an interview after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday.
Trump and Xi are scheduled to meet on Friday to wrap up a two-day summit that includes flashy demonstrations and deals including market access for U.S. businesses and the purchase of American goods. Beijing also issued a stern warning that mishandling the Taiwan issue could lead bilateral relations into a deadlock.
Trump’s visit marks the first time a sitting US president has traveled to China in nearly nine years. The two leaders are expected to share tea and a working lunch before US officials travel to Washington.
