Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan was felicitated by the Bihar government on Friday following his contribution to India’s victorious 2026 ICC T20 World Cup campaign.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary handed over a check of Rs 1 million to the 27-year-old cricketer during a ceremony held at the CM’s office in Patna.

Kishan, whose origins are in Bihar’s Nawada district and spent part of his childhood in Patna, was warmly welcomed by the chief minister, who gifted him a stole and a souvenir.

Sharing photos from the event on X, Choudhary described Kishan as the “son of Bihar” and praised his role in helping India lift the T20 World Cup.

Senior Bihar government officials, including Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, and Kishan’s family members were also present at the honor ceremony.

Why did the Bihar government give Rs 1 million to Ishan Kishan?

The Bihar government honored Ishan Kishan with a cash reward of 1 billion rupees for being part of India’s ICC T20 World Cup winning team in 2026.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the award recognized Kishan’s “significant contribution” to India’s title bid and celebrated his achievements as a player from Bihar.

Where in Bihar is Ishan Kishan from?

Ishan Kishan’s roots trace back to the Nawada district of Bihar. He also spent his early childhood in Patna before continuing his cricket journey.

Over the years, Kishan has become one of the most well-known cricketers associated with Bihar, especially after his rise in international cricket and IPL.

What happened in the Gujarat Titans-Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL match?

While Kishan was celebrated off the field in Patna, things did not go his way on the field when the Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Gujarat Titans.

GT defeated SRH by 82 runs in a one-sided IPL clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Defending 168, Gujarat’s pace attack completely disrupted Hyderabad’s batting line-up, leaving them all out for just 86 runs.

Mohammad Siraj got the GT off to an excellent start by dismissing Travis Head early before Kagiso Rabada moved up the top order.

Rabada omitted Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Smaran Ravichandran from the Powerplay, leaving SRH with almost no chance of returning to the contest.

Jason Holder then dismissed Heinrich Klaasen, effectively ending Hyderabad’s hopes.
