What HAVE The Devil Wears Prada cast done to their faces? Plastic surgeons verdict on the stars’ ageless appearances as 20-year comparison shots go viral

Twenty years ago, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci walked the red carpet for The Devil Wears Prada.
When they did it again earlier this month for the premiere of the highly anticipated sequel, viewers immediately noticed how little the stars had changed.
A recent post about X by Turkish news site Jurnal showed side-by-side facial comparisons of the four actors and has now been viewed more than 29 million times.
Summing up the general reaction to Tucci’s agelessness, one reader wrote that his face was ‘the strongest possible evidence of a Mediterranean diet.’
But others have suggested that female stars may have had a little help from the surgeon’s knife and needle.
‘I wonder what Anne would look like if she didn’t have a facelift?’ I asked someone.
Another wrote: “You can see exactly what kind of plastic surgery they all did except Tucci.”
So what is the truth? The Daily Mail asked some of America’s leading plastic surgeons, who look at photos of stars but don’t treat them, to weigh in on how the Devil Wears Prada 2 cast is aging so gracefully. Their answers were eyebrow-raising to say the least.

Anne Hathaway: Botox… and maybe ‘ponytail surgery’
In the 2006 original, viewers were introduced to Andy Sachs, played by Hathaway, then an aspiring young journalist in his early 20s who gets a job at a fashion magazine “where a million girls would kill for.”
Dr. D., a board-certified plastic surgeon in Texas. Frank Agullo says that today the 43-year-old actor looks perhaps more prominent and younger than he did twenty years ago.
Agullo, who does not treat movie stars, said: ‘Hathaway still looks much younger than she would naturally at that age.’
He added that Hathaway represents the ‘natural’ result, ‘but it’s clear she’s had plastic surgery.’
Agullo added: ‘The most striking change is Hathaway’s current eyebrow position; Compared to 2006, the side tail in particular looks noticeably higher and more open.
‘This appearance is consistent with an endoscopic brow lift or ponytail lift.’
In an endoscopic brow lift, the surgeon makes several small incisions, each about 1 inch long, behind the hairline.
A small camera called an endoscope is inserted through an incision, allowing the surgeon to view the underlying muscles and tissue on a screen.

Then, using special tools inserted through other incisions, the eyebrow and forehead tissues are lifted up and fixed in a higher position.
This lifts the eyebrows, opens the eye area and smoothes forehead wrinkles. Healing usually takes one to two weeks, and most swelling and bruising will resolve within that time.
The procedure usually costs between $4,000 and $8,000, depending on the surgeon’s experience and geographic location.
Sometimes called a side brow lift or temple lift, the ponytail lift focuses specifically on the outer tails of the eyebrows. Small incisions are made just inside the hairline near the temples.
The surgeon then uses permanent sutures or dissolvable threads to pull the outer eyebrow up and back, creating a lifted, ‘plucked’ appearance, similar to the effect of pulling hair into a tight ponytail.
This procedure is less invasive than a full brow lift and has a shorter recovery time. However, the results of thread lifts may only last one to three years, while the results of stitch lifts may last longer.
Costs range from $1,500 to $5,500, with thread lift at the lower end and surgical stitch removal at the higher end.
Agullo added: ‘His jawline now looks much sharper and more angular than in 2006 and his jaw now looks clearer in profile.’
He suggested this could be the remainder of the chin implant, possibly along with the removal of cheek fat.
A chin implant improves jawline projection by placing a solid silicone implant at the front of the jawbone.
The surgeon makes a small incision under the chin or inside the mouth, creates a pocket of tissue, and inserts the implant. Healing takes about one to two weeks and the typical cost is between $3,000 and $3,000.5,500.
Cheek fat removal removes cheek fat pads through small incisions inside the mouth, reducing lower cheek fullness without leaving a visible scar.
Creates a more shaped facial contour. The swelling lasts one to three weeks. Typical cost is $2,000 to $2,000.5,000.
Experts told the Daily Mail that beyond surgery, Hathaway’s non-surgical care was ‘clear’. She has never directly addressed the plastic surgery rumors.
Agullo said Hathaway’s forehead was moving ‘but not excessively’, which could be a sign of mild, regular injections of botulinum toxin (the most famous of which is Botox), which softens lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscles.
She added that her cheeks were voluminous without appearing puffy or overly full, suggesting the strategic use of hyaluronic acid filler, an injectable gel that restores lost facial fullness.
The skin reflects light evenly with a smooth texture, a hallmark of ongoing laser resurfacing treatments that remove damaged surface layers to stimulate collagen and improve tone.

Meryl Streep: A deep facelift, mild Botox and fillers
Twenty years ago, Chao said, Streep looked good for a woman in her mid-50s, but naturally she was.
However, he appears to have aged backwards in the intervening years, positioning himself against plastic surgery.
‘His skin texture and neck lines are quite remarkable for someone in his mid-70s,’ he added.
Streep, now 76, has experienced many normal changes to her face over the course of her long career, including a typical loss of fullness in the middle of the face, banding in the neck, and more forehead movement.
‘Streep is the most interesting,’ Agullo said. ‘There is some laxity and visible vertical neck bands on her lower face and neck; Both are natural signs of aging.
‘But the fact that it appears relaxed rather than drooping or receding suggests that it may have had a deep facelift approximately five to seven years ago.’
This technique repositions not only the skin but also the deeper tissues and allows everything to settle, avoiding the tight, unnatural look of past facelifts.
Unlike older facelift techniques that only tighten the skin, a deep-plane facelift repositions the deeper layers of the face, including muscles, fat, and connective tissue, as a single unit.
The surgeon usually makes incisions that start at the temples, curve downward in front of the ear, and end behind the hairline.
Through these incisions, the surgeon removes deeper tissues and repositions them to a younger position, then smoothes the skin over the top without tension.
This approach adds volume to the mid-face, sharpens the jawline and can improve neck laxity without creating a ‘pulled-in’ look. Because it provides deeper tissue lift, results appear natural and can last seven to ten years or longer.
The recovery is more extensive than a standard facelift; significant swelling and bruising appear for two to three weeks; Most patients return to normal activities after four to six weeks.
Typical cost ranges from 15,000 to 15,000. 30,000 or more, depending on the surgeon’s specialty, geographic location, and whether additional procedures such as a neck lift or eyelid surgery are performed at the same time.
Steep’s smooth top suggests the use of botulinum toxin, Agullo said, adding: ‘The existing skin texture appears to be better preserved than untreated skin at that age and is likely the result of follow-ups with a dermatologist.’
Dr. Ohio plastic surgeon, who did not treat Streep. Diana Ponsky told the Daily Mail that the actor’s nose is the same, ‘only there is more volume in the middle of the cheek’ and this can be achieved with filler.
Ponsky added that Streep likely receives annual chemical peels, occasional mild laser treatments, or uses strong topical products.
Agullo said: ‘He’s a great example of how postponing procedures allows for a more expressive face.’

Emily Blunt: ‘Settings’ and possibly eyebrow-raising
The lower part of Emily Blunt’s lower face weakened between the ages of 23 and 43, when she starred in the first movie.
Her eyebrows are slightly raised and the ’11’ lines between her eyebrows are softer, all consistent with light and regular use of neuromodulators such as Botox.
The mother of two, who is married to actor and filmmaker John Krasinski, has been debunking plastic surgery rumors for years.
And both Chao and Agullo say her youthful appearance is the least altered by plastic surgery among the female stars in the cast.
Instead, they suggest it may have undergone small, regular cosmetic ‘fixes’.
Agullo said: ‘She still looks fresh today and has the same mid-face fullness she had in her early 20s.
‘The sharp chin definition is still there and shows no signs of overfilling or bloating.
‘Until the early 40s, such protection usually involves stellar genes, sun-safe habits, modest injectable filler, a quality topical regimen and possibly an endoscopic brow lift.’
Compared to older brow lift techniques that involve a much larger incision along the hairline, an endoscopic brow lift generally leaves smaller scars and produces subtler, more natural-looking results.
She has never directly addressed the plastic surgery rumors.

Stanley Tucci: No ‘job’… yet he managed not to age
Many plastic surgeons agree that Tucci, now in his mid-60s, has had little or no plastic surgery.
Agullo stated that Tucci “represents perhaps the best ‘intentional natural aging’ that can occur today without intervention”, noting that her skin shows a texture appropriate for her age and does not show any signs of shrinkage, swelling or surgical tension.
His skin shows normal texture and pigmentation for a 65-year-old; no signs of facelifts, filler bulges or surgical tightening. Her jawline is softer but defined, her under-eye area has natural wrinkles, and her cheeks remain full and mobile.
“In my eyes, Tucci has not had a facelift, eyelid surgery or injectable use,” Agullo said.
‘Instead she has gracefully embraced the signs of aging and today looks both authoritative and trustworthy because her appearance has not been artificially altered.’
‘When you compare the 45-year-old Tucci to the 65-year-old, you’ll notice that not a lot of work has been done. “The temple grooves and skin texture in her recent photos are natural,” Chao added.
‘My guess is that she has a great skincare regime and maybe had some mild laser resurfacing at some point, but that’s about it.’
Tucci never had to address the plastic surgery rumors.
Representatives of the four actors were approached for comment.
