Fire breaks out in coach of Rajdhani Express, no casualties

A fire broke out in the AC coach of the Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district on Sunday morning, May 17, 2026, railway officials said.

Railways senior commercial manager Sourbah Jain said that no casualties were reported in the fire that broke out at 5.15 am in coach B-1 (12431) of the train carrying 68 passengers, which necessitated immediate measures.

Ratlam division PRO Mukesh Kumar said that the incident took place between Alot and Lunirichha stations under Kota division of railways.

The affected bus was then separated from the rake and the overhead power supply (OHE) was immediately shut down to ensure safety.

Mr Kumar said the fire in the carriage was later extinguished.

All passengers were taken off the train. Kota railway PRO Ravindera Lakhara said none of the passengers were injured PTI.

Officials said arrangements have been made to accommodate them in other buses for the journey to Kota.

An additional bus will be added to Kota station to restore full capacity.

Kumar said Ratlam District Railway Manager (DRM) reached the spot and the accident relief train also reached there.

Authorities said the cause of the fire was being investigated.
