Great white shark fatally attacks man, 38, at popular vacation destination

A 38-year-old man died after being attacked by a 13-meter shark in Australia on Saturday.

Police said the attack took place just before 10am on Horseshoe Reef near Rottnest Island off Australia’s west coast.

The island is located approximately 30 km west of Perth.

The man was brought back to shore but never regained consciousness.

Perth’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development told the AFP news agency it was urging people to take “additional precautions” in the area, according to BBC News.

The agency added that it was reported to be a great white shark.

Footage of the incident provided by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation shows police at the scene along with a boat and rescue workers.

In January, a 12-year-old boy died a week after being attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbour.

Three more people were attacked in non-fatal incidents off the New South Wales coast in the same two days.
