The investigation into the alleged gold scam by Soundar Raj alias ‘Chinnathambi’ has intensified with the Mysuru city police asking the public to contact the City Crime Branch (CCB) with necessary documents.
After receiving complaints from the public about alleged fraud, the city police arrested Raj, who allegedly lured customers with gold pledged to various financial institutions by offering to buy gold ornaments at higher prices and providing loans at lower than market rates.
It was alleged that the accused not only did not pay the fixed value of the gold but also misused the gold ornaments by melting them down and thus cheated the customers.
A case was registered against the accused at Kuvempunagar Police Station under Sections 316(2), 318(4), 351(3) and 3(5) of the BNS. In the statement made by the Mysuru City Police Commissioner’s office, it was stated that Article 9 of the KPID was later activated in the said case and the investigation was continuing.
“Therefore, members of the public who were cheated after promising gold by Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi in connection with this case are requested to meet the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mysuru City, CCB Unit, Mysuru City, at the CCB office with the necessary documents with them for further legal action,” the city police said in a statement.
