AAP leader Deepak Singla arrested by ED in alleged bank fraud case

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deepak Singla in connection with an alleged bank fraud case, officials said. Earlier in the day, the ED raided Singla’s house in Delhi as part of an investigation into the alleged fraud.

Detailed information on the subject is awaited.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Atishi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for trying to “obtain organizational data” of his party after Enforcement Directorate (ED) searches were conducted at AAP leader Deepak Singla’s house in Goa.

“With the increasing popularity of Aam Aadmi Party in Goa, ED, the loyal foot soldier of the BJP, has also been sent here! From early morning today, an emergency raid was carried out on the residence of AAP Goa in-charge Deepak Singla and the house of some volunteers in Goa. This is not only an attempt to intimidate our volunteers, but also an attempt for the BJP to capture all our organizational data!” Atishi wrote in the post.
In a separate video message shared on X, he claimed that ED raided the house of AAP leader Sanjeev Arora, who refused to join the BJP, while those who joined the party, including former AAP MP Ashok Mittal, escaped. “The whole country saw how the BJP used the ED against the TMC in the Bengal elections. The IPAC organization, which fought for the TMC, sent its workers to jail. All the data of the TMC’s organization was stolen through the ED before the elections. After the elections, everyone was released from jail. After the Bengal elections, the next attack was in Punjab, raids were made on the houses of ordinary party leaders. No action was taken against the escaped BJP leaders. However, the leaders who refused to join the BJP were sent to jail. Now the next target after Punjab It is Goa.”

He questioned the “raids” on the residences of AAP Goa in-charge Deepak Singla and other party workers and described it as an attempt by the BJP to belittle the AAP in Goa, amid the party’s “growing popularity”.

Earlier on May 9, Punjab Minister and AAP leader Sanjeev Arora was also arrested after a day-long search of his four premises, including his residence, its subsidiaries and an office building belonging to Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL), which is also under the agency’s scanner in the case.
