Households in England were advised to close their windows on Saturday. Warm weather is expected to arrive towards the weekend. Following changing weather conditions in the UK over the last few weeks, current weather maps show temperatures will rise in the coming days and weeks, with Brits excited for the summer conditions many have been missing. However, summer brings with it some discomfort.
We Brits are all too familiar with hot houses and flats that are impossible to cool down, especially after the significant heatwaves the country experienced last year. But there are plenty of tips and tricks for keeping your home cool in hot weather, and most of them don’t cost a dime. In addition to staying away from certain appliances such as dishwashers and ovens, especially when the weather is hot, households need to be careful when opening and closing windows. The key is to keep them closed when it’s hot outside, because you want to keep as much cool air inside as possible.

WXCharts’ latest weather maps show temperatures of up to 25C in London next Sunday 24 May, with temperatures above 20C in many parts of the country.
As such, many houses will become hot and an uncomfortable situation will arise for most people. While homes need things like fans to stay cool, the first step should be to close the windows at the right time.
According to the NHS, households should “close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside drops”.
“If the temperature is below 35 degrees, electric fans can help,” he adds. “Control the temperature of rooms where people live and sleep, especially those at high risk.”

Households need to monitor hourly forecasts and note when temperatures rise during the day. Temperatures are coldest in the early morning, late evening and overnight. This is when the windows need to be open to let the cold air in, then close the windows during the day to keep that air in.
Meanwhile, the British Red Cross is urging households to close their blinds and curtains at certain times of the day to keep heat out and cool air in. “The sun shining through windows can quickly heat your home,” the organization warns.
“Make sure to close the windows during the day to protect from direct sunlight, such as blinds, curtains or external blinds. If you do not have anything to block the sun, hanging sheets or towels will have a similar effect.”
According to the statement made by Meteorology, the weather on Saturday will be hot, with occasional showers and showers. It makes sense, then, to keep the heat out of your home as much as you can by closing all windows.
“Warm and pleasant weather” is then expected to prevail on Sunday and throughout the Bank Holiday Monday. High pressure is expected to remain generally across much of the UK over the next week, while temperatures are expected to be “above normal, very warm at times with light winds”.
High pressure is likely to continue as we move into June, meaning warmer days are on the way for the UK. Households are advised to take the necessary precautions to keep their homes cool in hot weather.
