Park officials tried to stop the flow of visitors by moving the picnic table. This did little to slow people down. They wanted to visit the table in its rightful place, and to do so, they moved the table back.

“Taiwanese have a remarkable way of creating shared memories” and “a tendency to unite over the most unexpected things,” according to comments about the picnic table on social media. These include dancing in the field at night, performing choreographed glow stick shows, posing for photos, holding banners and dressing up in costumes such as maid outfits and dinosaur suits, the Taipei Times reported.

There is also an argument that this is disturbing wildlife in the national park, which is a valid concern. The legend of the picnic table will live on long after the crowds fade away.

What happened to the couple responsible for possible accidental sex at the picnic table livestream? It was announced on Friday that Taipei’s Shilin Police District had identified a suspect.
