Former doctor charged with 94 counts of rape

A former doctor has been charged with nearly 150 offenses after being accused of sexually assaulting 15 women at a private health centre.

The 74-year-old man is due to appear in court on nearly 100 rape charges after police allege he attacked women aged from their teens to their 40s from the early 2000s to 2015.

Police said the man committed the offenses while working as a doctor at a private health center in Tarragindi, south of Brisbane.

The former doctor was charged Tuesday with 148 crimes, including 94 rapes and 54 sexual assaults.

Police said a full investigation into the alleged historic sexual assaults was launched after detectives launched Operation Xray Cariyna.

Detective Senior Sergeant Denis Silk said in a statement: “This type of crime is a deplorable breach of trust and investigators are determined to pursue every avenue to seek justice for the surviving victims.” he said.

“If anyone has further information or has experienced similar interactions, we encourage you to contact us directly or anonymously to Crimestoppers.

“I want to reassure victim survivors that you are not alone, support services are available to you.”

The man is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 23.
