Arsenal win Premier League: Key moments in Gunners’ title-winning season

On paper, a trip to side West Ham to avoid relegation looked like the toughest of Arsenal’s last three games.

This was a game Arteta’s men needed to win to prevent City from getting back in, but they struggled to break down the Hammers’ stubborn resistance.

The match was still goalless when West Ham midfielder Matheus Fernandes came to collect the loose ball, played a one-two with Pablo and found himself only six yards out from David Raya.

Fernandes tried to beat the goalkeeper at his near post but Raya extended his right leg and made a superb save from close range to keep the scores level in the final 10 minutes.

Raya’s save looked even more important when Leandro Trossard put Arsenal ahead in the 83rd minute.

However, the game was just around the corner and with time running out, West Ham came forward in search of an equalizer.

Gabriel made a great block to deny Callum Wilson’s shot but the West Ham forward would have another chance from the resulting corner, slotting the ball between bodies to score a stunning injury-time equaliser.

Or so he thought.

The video assistant referee (VAR) stepped in and after a long review, the goal was disallowed due to a foul on Raya as Pablo put his arm on the goalkeeper’s chest and held his left arm.

A number of other potential infringements were also taken into consideration and waved off, including penalty kicks for fouls by Trossard and Declan Rice, meaning Arsenal held on while West Ham and possibly Manchester City raged.
