Built to Ease Traffic, Nampally’s New 15-Floor Multi-Level Parking Lies Deserted Due to Lack of Awareness

Hyderabad: The multi-storey car parking facility in Nampally, which was inaugurated in January, received a bad response, with organizations in the area attributing it to lack of awareness among the public.

Deccan Chronicle’s visit revealed that despite the presence of government offices, commercial establishments and proximity to Hyderabad Railway Station, the facility remains underutilised. Parking continues to be an issue in the area and the facility was out of service for several days after opening.

The parking complex located near the Hyderabad Industrial Fair (Numaish) did not benefit visitors through 2026. Dr Gangadhar Rao said, “Multi-storey car parking facility would have greatly helped the visitors of Numaish. Although it was opened in January, it could not serve the visitors this season as it was non-functional.”

“The multi-storey car park facility was initially built to meet the parking needs in the area. Currently, the movie theater and commercial complex at the facility are not fully functional. Once they start operating at full capacity and attract large crowds, a large portion of the parking area may be occupied by moviegoers, which may defeat the main purpose of the car park complex,” he said.

Attempts to contact officials responsible for the facility were not responded to.

Nampally junction, which connects the old and new parts of the city, continues to face traffic congestion with vehicles parking in areas that are not usually parked. The multi-level parking facility is expected to ease traffic congestion if used effectively.

Developed under the public-private partnership between Larsen & Toubro and Hyderabad Metro Rail, the 15-storey complex has 10 floors reserved for parking and has a capacity of 200 vehicles and 200 two-wheelers. The facility was built using German technology.

Sudharshan Rao said: “If authorities create awareness through billboards, visitors to government offices in the area, including the MRO office next to the multi-storey car parking facility, will benefit.”

Response to the facility remains low; stakeholders cite lack of awareness and delay in operational readiness as key factors.
