Giants running back Cam Skattebo’s math skills called into question after 2,000-yard season declaration

NFL fans even superficially aware of New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo know exactly what he brings to the table.
The soon-to-be sophomore sensation burst onto the scene in 2025 and had a pretty rookie season before a freak ankle injury cut his season short.
He’s a gritty, physical runner who plays like a Coke machine rolling downhill, and he inspires the teammates around him with his toughness.

These are all great qualities to have in a running back, but what I didn’t mention were Skattebo’s math skills, and there seems to be a good reason for that.

According to ClutchSportsWhile speaking with NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, Skattebo blew up the mental abacus with a math problem that would leave even the nerds at MIT scratching their heads in confusion.
“I made it to 400 yards in 100 throws,” Skattebo said confidently. “When I play 17-plus games this year, it will be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards.”
Hey, look, I’m totally optimistic, but I don’t think the math works out very well on this one, Cam.

Math has never been my strong suit, but after crunching the numbers a bit, if he expects to average the same over 300 yards as he does on 100 carries, then he’s looking at around 1,200 yards for a full season of practice.
It wasn’t a bad year for an NFL running back in today’s pass-heavy era, as over 1,200 yards would put Skattebo in the top 10 on the league’s rushing yards leaderboard in 2025.
But that’s not even close to the 2,000-yard projection Skattebo has thrown there, and how he got to that number is a question only he and his brain can answer.
Fortunately, the Giants didn’t draft Skattebo because of his arithmetic ability, and anyone surprised by that was probably not paying attention.

Here’s hoping Skattebo’s ankle fully heals and he has a great season in 2026, rushing for between 400 and 2,000 yards.
Also, don’t ask him for help with your algebra homework.
