Daniel Goldman trails Brad Lander by 30 points in New York primary poll

The nation was introduced to Rep. Daniel Sachs Goldman (DY), the rich kid of the Levi jeans fortune, in 2019 when he was named lead counsel in President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. Since his election to Congress in 2022, his reputation as an anti-Trump zealot has only metastasized.

So the fact that Goldman is trailing Democratic Socialist-leaning Brad Lander by more than 30 points in the primary, according to Emerson’s new poll, is shocking and no doubt a happy development for Trump. In other words, it’s completely smoked.

Goldman must have thought he had one foot in the White House as he led the charge against Trump, but the tables turned.

Fans of the president and, frankly, the rule of law cannot be blamed for feeling even slightly saddened by the political demise of the vile Goldman, who helped turn Trump’s “perfect” phone call with Ukrainian President Vlodomir Zelenskyy into a senseless national nightmare.

His Ahab-like obsession with his great orange whale came with him to Congress. In 2023, he told Jen Psaki on MSNBC that Trump was “destructive to our democracy” and “must be eliminated.” So who is eliminated now?

Perhaps no Democrat has looked at little red lights and warned more direly than Goldman that Trump is an existential threat to humanity, but ultimately that doesn’t seem to be enough.

While the pompous Goldman’s humiliation in the polls is a welcome relief, it also tells us deeper truths about the nature of today’s Democratic Party. Because unlike Eric Swalwell, the alleged nymphomaniac and former anti-Trump House member, Goldman has no scandal to shake him.

JONATHAN TURLEY: ERIC SWALWELL’S CREATORS KNEW THE TRUTH AND ALWAYS PROTECTED HIM

Goldman is not being punished at the ballot box for anything he did or didn’t do. He is Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who regularly opposes the party with his voice and his votes. not. No, Goldman’s problem is simply that he is not a socialist.

Lander, Gotham’s failed former comptroller, has the support of Mayor Zohran “Mad” Mamdani and his Democratic Socialist machine, and socialism is very popular in Goldman’s very white and extremely educated district.

Now it would be possible for Goldman to put on a Che Gueverra t-shirt and start handing out little red books to stay competitive, except for one thing: Goldman supports Israel.

MAMDANI IS AN EXISTENTIAL THREAT TO NEW YORK JEWS

Lander, who, like Goldman, is Jewish, bowed at the altar of anti-Israel frenzy and somersaulted in obedience from supporting military aid to the Jewish state to opposing it. At least for now, that’s further than Goldman can go.

Let’s be clear: In the eyes of most prominent Democrats, from politicians to podcasters, Goldman’s support for Israel literally amounts to support for genocide, a reality that more and more pro-Israel and Jewish Democrats are confronting.

Goldman would want nuance from his voters to make them understand that his policies toward Israel are complex, but where was his sense of nuance when he made very bad comments about Trump’s “impeachable” phone call?

DAVID MARCUS: THE DEMOCRATIC BUS IS ON THE ROAD WHILE SOCIALISTS IN NYC HIT THE GAS PEDAL

Goldman never tried to be fair to Trump or his administration or give them the benefit of the doubt. So it’s only fitting that so many Democrats are ready to kick him out the door, no questions asked.

With Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s hand-picked candidate, Chris Raab, winning the Congressional primary in Philadelphia and Lander heading to New York, the socialist ranks among Democrats in Congress are rapidly growing.

Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wants to be the speaker of the house, but he may end up more like the chief secretary of the Politburo.

LEFT, LEFT AND LEFTIST: DEMOCRATS MAY BE DEFINED BY RADICAL, BIG CITY MAYORS

Goldman, like many Democrats, thought he could ignore the growing tide of socialism in his party. He must have believed that meritorious service against Trump would earn him enough points to retain his seat.

But gratitude is not a quality that socialists value. Revolution is very important for this. History teaches us that useful fools who advocate communism always face unfair and tasteless desserts.

No one needs to cry for Goldman. Unless there is a miraculous comeback, he will return to his rich life full of free time. But we have reason to worry about the country as one of our major parties has capitulated to socialism.

Unfortunately, instead of fighting to keep his party sane, Goldman watched the party go crazy and said nothing. Now the crazies are coming for him and no one can say he doesn’t deserve it.
