Canadian Grand Prix 2026: Lewis Hamilton says he has no plans to retire from Formula 1

Last year, Hamilton hinted that he had signed a contract with Ferrari for 2027 and said that there was no need to enter into negotiations regarding his future in 2026.

However, for the first time he openly stated that he has a contract with Ferrari until the end of next season.

His comments about the length of time he will see himself in F1 will keep him in the sport until his 45th birthday.

Although Hamilton’s long-time rival Fernando Alonso turns 45 in July, drivers rarely race for that long in F1. The Spaniard’s contract with Aston Martin expires at the end of this season and he is currently evaluating whether to sign a new contract.

Hamilton had a terrible second half of last season and has repeatedly expressed doubts about whether he still has his old pace.

He started this year in a more competitive position than teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished the championship in third place after the first four races of the season, eight points ahead of fifth-placed Hamilton.

Leclerc is 4-2 in all six qualifying rounds this season, including the sprint events in China and Miami. Monegasque’s average pace advantage is only 0.081 seconds.
