Coronation Street fans are left horrified by the eye-watering price of a pie in Roy Cropper’s cafe as they declare ‘he’s officially joined the 1%’

Given its working-class roots, it’s fair to assume Weatherfield residents don’t have to spend much on lunch.

But Coronation Street fans were stunned to learn that even Roy Cropper has been hit by the cost of living crisis after discovering the eye-watering price of a pie in his café in the final episode.

Roy’s Rolls has been a fixture on the sidewalks since 1999 and has been at the center of any drama related to the series.

The greasy spoon offered locals all kinds of cafe favorites, including fried breakfasts and sandwiches, as well as tea, coffee and cakes.

But Roy was left devastated when a fire ripped through his beloved café earlier this year, leaving him with just a few precious memories from his marriage to late wife Hayley.

After the repairs, the cafe finally reopened, but some curious onlookers noticed that the price of a humble pie had increased.

An on-screen menu board showed the tasty treat, which comes with fries and soft peas, currently costs £6.95.

Roy’s was offering a platter of the classic dish for just £5.50, but the new cost meant an increase of more than 25%.

Fans were appalled by the price rise and wrote to X: ‘Roy Cropper has officially joined the 1%. £1.45 price increase just for fitting a new bulb. Capitalism has reached the cobblestones;

‘I know inflation is bad but Roy’s Rolls now charges London prices for soft peas. Absolute scenes!’

‘Weatherfield has officially been gentrified. During a fire, Roy suddenly thinks he’s going to open a gastropub in Didsbury. ‘The artisan will then charge £4 for sourdough toast.’

The greasy spoon has been a fixture of Corrie cobbles since its first episode in 1960.

It was Dawson’s Cafe on Rosamund Street in the late 1970s before Jim Sedgewick bought it and renamed it Jim’s Cafe, which his wife Alma and Gail Tilsey ran together.

Following his debut in 1995, Roy became an employee at the café and later bought the café, renamed it Roy’s Rolls and moved the entire premises to Victoria Street in 1999.

The price increase is a contrast to other soap-related businesses; fans were previously shocked to learn the low price of a cocktail at Viaduct Bistro.

The restaurant is currently selling a mojito cocktail for £5.50, at a time when a similar drink could cost twice as much in the real world.

Similarly, the apple thyme martini retails for just £5.75, and the Viaduct Visa, consisting of rum, pineapple juice and coconut cream, retails for the same price.

Fans joked on Reddit: ‘Reminds me of nostalgia from the 90s when going out was reasonable and affordable!’

It sounds very similar to ‘Viaduct Vista’. Exactly at these prices! ‘Chin chin!’

‘Probably the last time they changed the opening titles/graphics was 2010 prices.’
