Queensland man charged after allegedly inciting violence against political bodies

An Australian man has been charged with allegedly encouraging violence against political institutions on encrypted social media platforms.
The Joint Counter Terrorism Squad attacked the Queensland man following a raid in Bowenville, about 140km west of Brisbane, on Friday.
Police said the team identified several “relevant posts” on an encrypted social media platform earlier this month.
Investigators allege the 48-year-old encouraged people to commit politically motivated acts of violence in Australia and abroad.
He was charged with using a transport service with intent to threaten, harass or cause a criminal offence.
Australian Federal Police Detective Chief Superintendent Bill Freeman said they would take action on information about people allegedly promoting or promoting violence online.
“Protecting the community from harm is our top priority, and that means taking early action when we see warning signs of extremist or violent behavior,” he said.

“Through JCTT, we combine our skills and resources to ensure threats are identified, assessed and eliminated before they escalate.”
Queensland Police Counter Terrorism Commissioner Jason Hindmarsh said they were determined to prevent violence.
The 48-year-old man is expected to appear at Warwick Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
