NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani releases audit accusing federal immigration agents of misleading tactics

They used tactics such as requesting “health checks” on children to obtain information about specific customers. In other cases, agents served subpoenas or administrative arrest warrants that did not legally allow access to shelters, but on two occasions they served legally binding judicial warrants (leading to one’s arrest).
In another example, ICE agents entered a Department of Probation (DOP) building in Brooklyn and asked to use the restroom, but then tried to look at the facility’s logbook. Staff caught them, checked their IDs and took them out, the report said.
Mamdani has been a vocal opponent of ICE and the Trump administration’s immigration agenda. In a statement, he called the audit “a critical step toward strengthening compliance with our local laws and strengthening New York City’s protections for immigrant communities.”
