Bengaluru cop’s wife found dead: Family alleges dowry harassment after 26-year-old sent phone password before death

A 26-year-old woman, the wife of a police officer, died under suspicious circumstances at her residence in KR Pura police station in Bengaluru, Times of India reported. Her family accused her husband and father-in-law of subjecting her to constant mental and physical abuse after marriage. It was stated that the deceased was Lakshmi Priya.

Priya allegedly sent the password of her mobile phone to her younger sister Jayashree via WhatsApp around 2.30 pm on May 22, 2026, creating suspicion among her family members. When the nurse saw the messages and tried to contact him immediately, he did not answer the calls.

Lakshmi Priya married Rajesh Aradhya on 11 May 2023 in Mysuru. According to the complaint filed by her father, Priya was allegedly harassed by her husband, father-in-law Palaksharadhya and mother-in-law Bhagyamma soon after their marriage.

Priya had given birth to a daughter eight months ago and had stayed at her parents’ house for about six months.

When they later contacted her husband Rajesh, he informed them that Priya had killed herself by hanging. Police said based on primary investigation, the incident came to light when Rajesh returned home in the evening and informed the police. Rajesh is attached to HAL police station.
A case was registered against the husband and his family members under BNS Sections 80(2) (dowry death) and 85 (husband or relative of husband of woman subjected to cruelty to woman) and provisions of Dowry Prohibition Act.
