Tiger Woods breaks silence with Memorial Day tribute to his late father

Tiger Woods shared his first public statement in nearly two months with a patriotic message on Memorial Day, paying tribute to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Woods took to the X early Monday afternoon to share his Memorial Day message and also pay a special tribute to his late father, Earl Woods, who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War.

Woods’ statement about X began: “My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours of duty in Vietnam and 20 years of service.” “To everyone like my father, we thank you for your sacrifices. Without them, we wouldn’t have the greatest country in the world.”

Woods’ father passed away in May 2006 at the age of 74.
Prior to his Memorial Day message, Woods had not been heard from since March 31, when he announced he would be “taking time away” to seek treatment following his March 27 car accident in Florida and subsequent DUI arrest.

The 15-time major champion was ultimately charged with two misdemeanors: driving under the influence causing property damage and refusing to submit to a legal test. Woods received a 0.00 result on both breathalyzer samples he provided, but his refusal to take the urine test resulted in a refusal charge.

After sharing the news of her diagnosis, Vanessa shared a heartfelt message on social media, calling Woods her “strength.” Woods announced his relationship with Vanessa in March 2025.
Woods hasn’t played a competitive round of golf since the 2024 Open Championship in Scotland.
