Woman killed, husband injured in wild elephant attack in Kerala’s Wayanad

A woman was killed and her husband was injured in a wild elephant attack on Meppadi-Chooralmala road in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as 46-year-old Jessie and her husband was Shaji, a resident of Puthumala. Shaji was admitted to VIMS Medical College Hospital in Meppadi. He works as a security guard in a private hospital.

Shaji was on his way to work around 6 am when the couple was attacked by the wild elephant in Kalladi Choondi. At that time, the elephant was crossing the road. Jessie was seriously injured and was immediately taken to hospital, but could not be saved.

Local residents told the media that the presence of a wild elephant was detected in the area two weeks ago.
