Four Corners reporter Mahmood Fazal is no longer working at the ABC
Four Corners reporter Mahmood Fazal is no longer with the ABC, a spokesman confirmed.
Fazal was the subject of an internal investigation last year for an unauthorized podcast appearance with a former underworld figure.
In October 2025, Media Watch reported that Fazal was working on the Word on the Street podcast hosted by independent journalist Ryan Naumenko.
But after a disagreement, the two parted ways and Naumenko made a series of damaging accusations, including that Fazal demanded payment in cryptocurrency without disclosing the paid work to his ABC supervisor.
In the statement made to Media Watch on behalf of Fazal, dated October 20, 2025, it was stated that he accepted the podcast, believing that he had the approval of his manager.
“He agreed to connect Mr. Naumenko with his production contacts and did so in good faith, hiring contractors and paying them for their work,” the statement said. The statement was included.
“The allegations made by Mr. Naumenko are categorically denied by Mr. Fazal.”
At the same time, ABC said in a statement that Fazal’s manager supported his participation in a podcast interview based on the information given to him.
“The interview did not receive final approval by the ABC as part of its external operating guidelines,” the statement said.
“Following the airing of the interview, which included gambling advertisements, his manager withdrew approval of the job. ABC management is thoroughly investigating this matter.”
