Who won yesterday’s match?
RR and SRH turned out to be a high-scoring blockbuster match, with the Rajasthan Royals amassing a massive total after being asked to bat first. Rajasthan got off to a flying start with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi taking over early. In the third over alone, he conceded 23 runs to SRH skipper Pat Cummins, instantly pushing RR to 45/0.
Rajasthan kept up the pressure as they raced to 63/0 and achieved a stunning half-century off just 16 balls. By the end of the power play, the Royals were running 80/0.
Sooryavanshi also made headlines by breaking the record for most sixes in an IPL season, surpassing Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of 59 sixes.
He said after the match: “(Are you celebrating happiness, or is it something like ‘what’s gone is gone, now think about the future’?) When we win, we just show our positive intention and move on to the next match. And we try to win the next match the same way and advance to the final.”
Even after playing one of the best knocks ever seen in an IPL play-off match, Sooryavanshi admitted that he maintained his simple way of thinking before games. “(What kind of mindset are you going to have in the next game?) I think a little bit, but not too much. I just try to play the game I’m in and not think too much. But if I feel like there’s something I need to work on, then I look at it.”
Near-record century in which RR dominated the power stage
The 15-year-old young sensation continued his relentless batting and smashed a sensational 29-ball 97, smashing 5 fours and 12 sixes before eventually being dismissed in the eighth over.
He fell just 3 runs short of the fastest ever IPL century, but by the halfway mark he had Rajasthan in complete control at 136/1.
Midrange keeps momentum going
Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled to get going and was dismissed by Shivang Kumar on 29 off 29 balls, but RR still crossed 150 in the 11th over.
Dhruv Jurel then took over the attack and smashed 17 runs from Cummins in an over. He quickly made a fifty off just 20 balls in the 14th over, then dropped the next ball for a 21-ball 50 (5 fours, 3 sixes).
Rajasthan were flying at 207/3 in 15 overs.
Late wickets, but RR finished strong with 243/8
Riyan Parag added a quick 26 off 12 balls before falling to Praful Hinge, who continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals.
RR eventually lost wickets in clusters towards the end – Donovan Ferreira (12), Dasun Shanaka (5), Jofra Archer (4), Nandre Burger (1) – while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten in 12 overs.
Rajasthan Royals finished their innings with a massive score of 243/8 in 20 overs.
