Michelle Wu’s LGBTQ+ office faces backlash over ‘Trans Period Pride’ event

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s Office of LGBTQ+ Development is facing backlash online after promoting a “Trans Pride” event at a public library focused on “menstrual equity” and transgender experiences with menstruation.

The free event will be held in June at the Boston Public Library Copley Branch. The event included a catered dinner and “complimentary period underwear for all participants.” The Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Development, Boston Alliance of LGBTQ+ Youth (BAGLY), MASS NOW, and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition.

The Instagram post describes the event as “an awareness-raising conversation about transgender experiences with menstruation.”

Many users commented with shock and disbelief on the Instagram post published on Tuesday, with one user writing: “This can’t be real…….” Another said: “Is this a joke?” he said. and a third wrote: “You all have lost your minds.”
