Haryana DGP holds high-level review meeting on law and order

Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal chaired a high-level review meeting in Panchkula on Friday, May 29, 2026, to assess the state’s law and order situation, crime control measures and progress in the government’s drug-free Haryana campaign.

Asserting in an official statement that laxity in maintaining law and order at any level will not be tolerated, the DGP warned that police officers whose performance and conduct falls below acceptable standards will be dealt with in accordance with established rules and procedures.

According to the statement, the DGP also stated that the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) will be formally established in June and directed the Additional Director General of Police (CID) and the entire district police to complete assessments of requirements and available resources within the stipulated time frame.

Discussions were also held on the drug-free campaign. Sanjay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, said comprehensive public awareness campaigns will soon be launched in all districts with coordinated efforts involving the police, civic administration and civil society.

Mr. Kumar said the rise in drug smuggling in neighboring states has had a direct and negative impact on Haryana, making it imperative to adopt a dual strategy targeting both demand and supply. Officers have been instructed to respond immediately on receiving any intelligence input regarding the sale or storage of drugs.

Mr. Kumar informed the meeting that in the last five years, action has been initiated against 3,062 accused in cases related to commercial quantities of drugs, while 153 persons have been detained under the Prevention of Illegal Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act since 2023.
