Arson attack destroys home of parents of murdered teen

The family of a 15-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in a parking lot has been dealt a new blow after their house was “burned down” in a suspected arson attack.

The house in Clontarf, north of Brisbane, was set on fire just before 2pm on Saturday.

Police will allege a 36-year-old man “set fire to a house in Weaber St using an accelerant before fleeing”.

Queensland Police said on Sunday that no one was injured in the attack but property was destroyed.

The family home is owned by Ben Beaumont and Michelle Liddle, parents of murdered Queensland teenager Angus Beaumont.

The teenager died after being stabbed to death by two boys in a car park in Redcliffe.

His aunt said the family was shaken after suffering “yet another immeasurable loss” in the fire.

“This afternoon, her house burned down after someone she knew broke into her home, poured gasoline everywhere and lit matches with my brother, his partner, and their teenage son,” Mandy Beaumont wrote in the GoFundMe appeal.

“This tragedy follows the murder of my brother’s son Angus in a car park in 2020… our family was devastated then and the next blow is another bad, bad thing.”

Mrs Beaumont said the family lost everything in the fire.

“My brother is a gardener and now he’s lost all his trucks and tools… they have nothing,” he said.

It is feared that Angus’ ashes, kept in an urn in the living room, were also lost in the fire.

Police charged a 36-year-old Dakabin man with arson.

He will appear at Redcliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
